Global Cannabis News Win a FREE vaporizer! - Legal Marijuana's Biggest Enemy Is Big Pharma - Like most grassroots movements, cannabis legalization has its own bogeymen–nebulous entities backed by kings and queens of industry who are as feared as they are loathed. Big Tobacco is in there, of course, as are the corrections and law enforcement industries. But as marijuana gains legitimate footing as a bonafide medicine accepted by top health associations and medical journals–most notably as treatment for chronic and neuropathic pain–legalization's biggest villain is, perhaps, the well-heeled pharmaceutical industry. Global Cannabis News SPECIAL ISSUE: The DEA Is Remains Publicly Ignorant - The DEA Has Declined To Reclassify Marijuana - The Drug Enforcement Administration continues to cling to an ignorant policy that has proven to be a failure since its conception. Marijuana will remain a Schedule l controlled substance, which declares it has "no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse," the Drug Enforcement Administration said Thursday. This keeps the drug in the same category as heroin, LSD and Ecstasy. The announcement is in response to two recent petitions asking the agency to reconsider this designation for the benefit of scientific research. The decision is based on a "scientific and medical evaluation" conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration at the request of the DEA."The DEA and the FDA continue to believe that scientifically valid and well-controlled clinical trials conducted under investigational new drug (IND) applications are the most appropriate way to conduct research on the medicinal uses of marijuana," said a statement from the DEA. Critics of the DEA have pointed out that marijuana researchers are caught in a Catch-22. In order to have more research, scientists need to do more studies. But in order [...]
Global Cannabis News The Kyoto Hemp Forum is July 2, 2016. - Become a member of the Kyoto Hemp Forum Today - Japan last year grew a grand total of five hectares of hemp. But that output belies the growing enthusiasm for the crop, which has a long history all across Asia, including the Land of the Rising Sun. And now those boosting Japanese hemp have enlisted a powerful ally -- First Lady Akie Abe, who will headline the first-ever Kyoto Hemp Forum, an international event set July 2 and organized by the Japan Hemp Association (JHA). “Hemp can be a viable substitute for fossil fuels, synthetic fibers, tree-based papers, and processed food proteins, which cause global environmental ramifications of unquantified proportions,” the JHA said in announcing the Forum. “Hemp is a viable substitute for deforestation.” The Forum has drawn leading hemp advocates, practitioners and company reps for the one day program including Paul Benhaim of Hemp Foods Australia and Elixinol (Colorado, USA); U.S. hemp author Chris Conrad, who penned the landmark title “Hemp Lifeline to the Future” as early as 1994; Paul Stanford, founder of The Hemp and Cannabis Foundation in the USA; and Argentine farmer and activist Mike [...]
Medical Cannabis News - Study Proves Marijuana Saves Lives - A study by the Journal of the American Medical Association indicates marijuana saves lives. - According to the study, between 1999 and 2010, within the 13 states that legalized marijuana, there was a 25% reduction in opiate painkiller overdose deaths. Study co-author Colleen Barry said that this same trend occurred. Marijuana saves lives in every state to legalize the plant since. A new survey conducted by the Centre for Addictions Research of BC helps explain why Big Pharma is so afraid of cannabis. The pharmaceutical and alcohol industries, both powerful influences in Washington, have long lobbied against cannabis legalization in order to protect their profits. However, the tide has turned as decriminalization of medical and recreational cannabis sweeps the nation and the continent. With legalization, more and more people are discovering how this plant can provide a safe alternative to the dangerous effects of prescription pills. The survey of 473 adult therapeutic cannabis users found that 87% of respondents gave up prescription medications, alcohol, or other drugs in favor of cannabis. Adults under 40 were likely to give up all three of these for medical cannabis. Again - proving that [...]
Happy 420! - How April 20 Became Global Weed Day - It's ALWAYS 420 somewhere. - For years, people have speculated about the true meaning of 420. Some popular myths about the origins of 420 include that the number is the police code for marijuana or that it's the number of chemical compounds found in weed, however, 420 thankfully has much more innocent and good-natured origins than anything having to do with all of that. Five San Rafael High School friends in San Rafael, Calif. collectively called the Waldos probably started the 420 tradition, according to the Huffington Post's seminal story on the history of 420. The code first came about in the fall of 1971 because the Waldos planned to meet at a statue of Louis Pasteur at the school at 4:20 before they went on an expedition to score some free weed from a plot of marijuana plants abandoned by a Coast Guard service member. "We would remind each other in the hallways we were supposed to meet up at 4:20. It originally started out 4:20- Louis and we eventually dropped the Louis," Waldo Steve, which is not his real name, told the Huffington Post. The Waldos kept [...]

It truly is a lot of fun to grow a legal [...]
Two Minutes Of Liberty - Judge James Gray Liberty and Justice for all!? Disturbingly, there is a movement spreading around some of our universities and elsewhere to promote having a “Freedom from Speech,” otherwise known as a freedom from having your feelings hurt by “insensitive” speech. This has resulted in so-called “safety zones” in which people are shielded from discomforting thoughts. To this end, students and others have received lowered grades or otherwise been censored for using phrases like “the most qualified person should get the job,” or “America is a melting pot,” or for calling people who do not have white skin “People of Color.” (As to that last issue, when I was in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica, it was common for a male with Chinese ancestry to be called “Chino,” a Black “Negro,” someone who was thin “Flaco,” or a North American like me “Gringo.” Using these names was simply descriptive and not at all disparaging, and I look forward to the day that this will be true in our communities as well.) But setting up these zones of “Safety from Discomfort” is the antithesis of Liberty, because it not only stifles free speech, it also [...]
HAPPY New Year! Have A Hempy Holidaze! Time 4 Dabbing Dabbing seems to be the new holiday craze! With the Christmas season upon us, all of us at Joint Conversations would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe holiday. May it be filled with happiness, smiles and loved ones. When I started consuming cannabis back in the early 70's we had a choice on whether we wanted it as a herb, hashish or as an oil. Today these choices obviously remain but there are a few other choices available today. These would be synthetic cannabis and shatter or shatters cousin's wax and budder. For me the only reason there is synthetic cannabis is because of prohibition and no other reason. I can't understand why anyone would want fake cannabis and to me it just doesn't make sense. Now as far as this shatter/wax and budder stuff goes, it's real but for some there are concerns such as the residue material left behind from the process to tests showing some of it contains pesticides. While the residue can be harder to remove or at least reduced with purging and other methods, the pesticides can't. [...]
